Core Grants: Multi-Year Funding for Organizations

The Canada Council for the Arts provides recurring, multi-year funding—core grants—to support organizations with stable funding over several years.

If your organization is already receiving a core grant,
find out about reporting requirements, receiving payments, etc.

What you should know before applying for a core grant

Core grants are available to organizations that have a history of funding from Canada Council programs.

The process for obtaining multi-year funding is highly competitive. The deadlines and eligibility criteria vary depending on the program. Please follow these steps before applying:

  • Find out about program deadlines and guidelines.
  • Check your Canada Council portal account to see if your approved profile corresponds to the program component you’re interested in. Make sure that program objectives and eligibility criteria correspond to your organization.
  • Speak with a Canada Council program officer to confirm the best option for your organization.

Once you’ve confirmed your organization’s eligibility, request an invitation to register for a Canadian Arts Data (CADAC) account. (Note: This does not apply to literary publishers.) Do this well in advance of any competition deadline by emailing coregrants@canadacouncil.ca.

How applications are assessed

Applications are assessed by peer assessment committees. Many factors pertaining to applicant organizations are taken into account, including:

  • artistic mandate and vision;
  • outreach and impact;
  • administration; and
  • governance.
