The Canada Council for the Arts on the right track

Ottawa, June 18, 2018 – The Canada Council for the Arts is pleased to release a positive and constructive report from the Office of the Auditor General of Canada. Overall, the Special Examination 2018 report affirms that the Canada Council is a well-managed organization able to effectively fulfill its mandate.

Given that the Special Examination occurred in the midst of a major transformation, the Council considers that the report validates the quality of its corporate management practices as it continues to implement its new direction.

The Special Examination did identify areas for improvement. Measures to respond to the recommendations are already being implemented under the leadership of the Director and CEO, Simon Brault, with the full support of the Canada Council’s Board. Read the full report.

The Office of the Auditor General of Canada audits most Crown corporations at least once every ten years, under the Financial Administration Act. These special examinations are a form of performance audit, after which the Auditor General provides an opinion on the management of the Crown corporation as a whole.

This special examination covered the period between November 1, 2016, and October 31, 2017.
