Advances in digital infrastructure will enable PEI artists to stay in the province, improve their incomes and establish a self-sustaining artistic community.

Equipping PEI artists with the tools they need to succeed

CreativePEI is the umbrella organization for the arts sector in the province. Unfortunately, established PEI artists are often forced to move to major cities where stronger arts communities, broadband connections and infrastructure enable them to develop artistically and make a living. In response, CreativePEI launched the Island Arts Initiative, a strategy that will transform the arts community, help keep artists in the province and position it as a location ideally suited to the growth of varied artistic practices.

The Initiative will explore advances in digital infrastructure to support artists’ remote operations, encourage innovation, and promote the collective strength of the arts and culture sector on PEI. The growing list of project partners includes Confederation Centre for the Arts, Fédération culturelle de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard, Black Cultural Society of PEI, FilmPEI, Music PEI and Tourism PEI. They will act as digital ambassadors throughout the project. Their role will be to engage their artist networks and encourage participation in research, webinars and pilot projects. The project will roll out in three phases from April 2021 to April 2024.
