Towards a Culture of Sustainable Development
A digital strategy to engage young people in the transition towards sustainable communities
Workshops to raise young people’s awareness about climate issues
“Imagining My Sustainable Community,” a program developed by No.9, an environmental sustainability-focussed organization in Toronto, offers Grade 7 and 8 students four days of workshops to brainstorm and collaborate to create art around the theme of environmental issues. Art and design are the central pillars of the search for innovative ways and concrete steps to stabilize the Earth’s climate. No.9 is counting on the cross-pollinating effects of this initiative to create a huge network of information and education about climate change.
Digital communication combined with reconciliation across Canada
To reach youth, No.9 has developed digital tools that enable participants from Halifax to Vancouver, including First Nations people, to discuss the sustainable development challenges their communities are facing. These new online spaces and communication tools also foster understanding and reconciliation between peoples.
