Glass Artist Susan Edgerley Won the 2019 Saidye Bronfman Award

The Saidye Bronfman Award recognized this Quebec-based artist’s prolific career, technical excellence and glass and mixed materials work that communicates frailty and whimsy.

Very poetic works

With her discerning eye and skillful sculpting, Susan Edgerley is one of Canada’s most experienced practitioners of fine crafts. Espace VERRE Director General Christian Poulin once said of the Val-Morin resident that she creates “large-scale installations where the maturity of her artistic intention is expressed through natural forms such as spirals, flakes and fine branches of glass. Through her works, she expresses an almost meditative poetry on life and the human condition.”

Recognition and a $25,000 cash prize

Created in 1977, the Saidye Bronfman Award is funded by the Samuel and Saidye Bronfman Family Foundation through a $1.5 million endowment fund. Canada is known for having fine crafts artists with extraordinary talent, and this national award recognizes the careers of the artists who have shaped the fine crafts field. It also promotes the best in fine crafts to Canadians through special activities, exhibitions and videos. The winners receive a medallion and a cash prize of $25,000.
