The Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada Is Designing a Digital Collaborative Creation Platform

Thanks to a grant, artists across Canada can use the Studio Colab platform to collaborate with each other via live video.

A powerful tool tailored to artists’ needs

Few solutions currently exist that enable artists from across the country to collaborate with each other without having to involve airplanes. Current video conference services do not meet artists’ needs in terms of processing images from several moving cameras, for example. In collaboration with Kaeja d’Dance, the Canadian Dance Assembly and Hemming House Pictures, the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada is currently working to design a more powerful platform. To carry out their project, they are enlisting the services of live digital video transmission professionals and researchers from the University of Saskatchewan.

The joys of low-cost collaboration from coast to coast to coast

One of the primary goals of the Studio Colab project is to increase collaborations between artists of all provinces, regardless of distance and travel costs. Studio Colab will be especially useful for small and medium-sized companies.
