Development of a digital surtitling tool for the performing arts
La Catapulte wants to work with many partners from the arts, technology and university sectors to develop a surtitling tool that is more effective than what is currently available.
Use surtitling to reach a larger audience
In a country where theatrical works are written and performed in both official languages as well as in a variety of Indigenous languages, there is a pressing need to surtitle shows in the audience’s predominant language. La Catapulte would like to create affordable and user-friendly surtitling software that would enable Canadian artists to reach a larger Canada-wide audience and reach new markets.
Involve the public, artists and presenters in developing the tool
Current show surtitling solutions are either expensive or not very effective. In collaboration with its partners, such as the Université du Québec en Outaouais, the Opéra de Montréal, La Licorne, Ex Machina, and the FTA (Festival TransAmériques), La Catapulte will consult artists and the public to develop a tool that will enrich spectators’ experience of live performing arts.
