Statement on Racism and Violence

June 1, 2020

In light of recent events that highlight the prevalence of and deep trauma caused by racism, we feel it is important to reiterate that the Canada Council strongly condemns anti-Black discrimination, and all forms of racism that permeate our society. We must act, individually and collectively, to create a society where there is no place for the injustice caused by racist acts and actions. In our role as Canada’s national public arts funder, we remain committed to advancing racial equity and social justice, and building an inclusive arts sector.

We hope the outcome of this troubling moment is reflection by all of us on how to contribute to building deep and lasting multiracial solidarity.
