Arts Community Pulse Survey

June 20, 2024
The Council launches a national survey to better understand the challenges and needs of the arts sector.

Research goal

On June 20, the Canada Council launched a Canada-wide Arts Community Pulse Survey to help build a robust portrait of the current state of the sector across Canada.

In her latest letter to the community, Council Director and CEO Michelle Chawla mentioned that, more than ever, it is time to deepen our collective understanding of the many challenges experienced throughout the country, to help shape an accurate and up-to-date picture of the current state of the sector nationally and to draw an evidence-based portrait that can be used by all of us to ensure sustainable support for the arts in Canada.

Methods

The Council has retained the services of Context Research Group (CRG), a trusted Canadian-owned and operated research firm to administer the survey. Individuals, groups and organizations working in the arts sector are encouraged to complete the survey.

Updating CADAC data

To further understand the needs of the sector in a post-pandemic context, organizations receiving core grants from the Council are being asked to update their financial and statistical forms. This updated data will enable the Council to evaluate the longer-term impacts of the disruption caused by the pandemic on the operations of organizations.

Outcomes

As part of the Canada Council’s commitment to transparency, findings from this research will be shared publicly once they are available.
