When Francophone Music Crosses Continents
Diasporas Music, a music agency based in New Brunswick that is known for its promotion of cultural diversity, reaches out to African and South American Francophone markets in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, and French Guiana.
Representing homegrown Francophone artists on the international stage
In winter 2020, Diasporas Music, a Caraquet-based agency that represents Francophone world music artists, accompanied two of its clients to Francophone destinations in North Africa, West Africa, Italy, and French Guiana. In this way, the agency strengthened its connections with various international networks and formed new partnerships. This promotional work also succeeded in including appearances by two of its clients—Montréal artists ILAM and Wesli—in MASA, a performing arts fair in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
Connecting with Francophile partners
For many years, the agency has arranged artistic bookings and set up programming and distribution teams in every country in its contact network. With support from the Arts Abroad program, Diasporas Music bolstered its promotional efforts by participating in professional activities at two showcase events: MASA in Côte d’Ivoire and RIDA (Rencontres internationales de la diffusion artistique) in French Guiana.
