Francophone Theatre Company from Iqaluit Performs at International Festival

Thanks to a Canada Council grant, Théâtre Uiviit, an Iqaluit-based, francophone theatre company, travelled to Montréal to perform at the Festival de Casteliers in 2018.

Travelling the country to perform

Théâtre Uiviit is a francophone theatre troupe based in Iqaluit with a mandate to create and produce original community theatre in French. It has been gaining recognition in the theatre world for its performances, which often include puppetry. The invitation to perform at Montréal’s Festival de Casteliers—an international puppetry festival for adults and children—was a sign of its growing success as well as a golden opportunity to extend its network and develop its practice.

A chance to network and share theatrical practices

The Festival is attended by puppet artists from around the world and features a networking event that helps artists meet each other. For Théâtre Uiviit, it was a welcome opportunity to build a bigger audience, meet fellow artists and develop new programming ideas, including ideas for introducing interested community members to its practice. It was also a chance for its members to see firsthand what other performance and puppet artists are doing.
