Located in Tors Cove, Newfoundland and Labrador, Running the Goat published children’s books that celebrate the province’s unique culture.

Five dynamic books for young readers

In 2018, the project grant provided by the Canada Council for the Arts enabled Running the Goat to make a name for itself by publishing five books: PB’s Comet; Mallard, Mallard, Moose; Seasons Before the War; Peg Bearskin; and To See the Stars. Some of these books made quite a splash. In fact, the Ontario Library Association named illustrator Lori Doody’s book Mallard, Mallard, Moose one of its 2018 Top Ten Best Bets in the picture book category, while PB’s Comet received positive reviews from specialty press.

Seasons Before the War, a particularly ambitious undertaking

Bernice Morgan’s fictionalized memoir Seasons Before the War is Running the Goat’s most ambitious project to date. The book features original artwork by award-winning illustrator Brita Granström. What’s more, the book made the 2018 BMO Winterset Award longlist.
