Nova Scotia Company Mocean Dance Is in Creative Effervescence

New Mocean Dance program for emerging and mid-career artists provides space for experimentation, dialogue and peer-to-peer learning.

Creating and touring

Mocean Dance dancers had the opportunity to work with Toronto choreographer Heidi Strauss in These Versions of Us—a long-haul show for the company, which is more accustomed to shorter productions. Simultaneously, Sara Coffin’s new creative endeavour Wild Within was gradually coming to life. Mocean Dance also toured Burnwater: Alchemy and Canvas 5 x 5.

The Next Wave project—the importance of experimenting

Hoping to support young contemporary artists in the Atlantic provinces, Suzanne Chui and Sara Coffin came up with Next Wave, a collaborative and creative program intended for emerging and mid-career artists. The program provides these artists with a space for experimentation, dialogue and peer-to-peer learning.
