Café Daughter, a play from Alberta—on the bill in Serbia

The Workshop West Playwrights troupe presented its critically- and publicly-acclaimed show at an event devoted to Canadian culture in Belgrade in July 2018.

A show exclusively involving Indigenous artists is performed for the first time in Serbia.

To tell this story of a Canadian woman of mixed Cree and Chinese descent, Workshop West Playwrights and Alberta Aboriginal Performing Arts co-produced a show in which the director, the author and the actress were all Indigenous Albertans.

An opportunity to develop foreign markets

Thanks to Barbara Tolevska, the Serb producer of the Days of Canadian Culture event in Serbia, the artists of Workshop West Playwrights had many professional meetings in Belgrade. On the strength of its artistic relations with the Krusevac theatre and the Festival of Monodrama and Mime, the Albertan troupe also met many local and international presenters there.
