Funding helps Montreal media arts centre support female and queer talent

Studio XX is a feminist, artist-run, women-led digital and media arts centre focused on diverse communities. It aims to bolster the independent media arts practices of women and queer artists.

Supporting diverse emerging artists

Studio XX helps produce new works of art by emerging artists, and is using many strategies to achieve this mission. For example, it is devoting some of its budget specifically to women and queer artists from diverse cultural backgrounds, providing them with mentorship as well as access to the centre’s network, equipment and laboratory.

Working toward a global vision

Studio XX is also actively looking for opportunities to showcase its artists’ work internationally. For example, Nataliya Petkova, an emerging artist featured in the centre’s 2017-18 program, went to Holland in 2017 to collaborate with Dutch artists and participate in the Instruments Make Play festival. The centre is looking for opportunities for local, national and international exposure for its members and the artists who take part in its programming.
