Yukon artist Joyce Majiski exhibits her work in Mexico
In March 2018, the visual artist exhibited her works in a new iteration of her exhibition in Mazatlán, Mexico, paving the way for future collaborations.
A first artistic exhibition in Mexico
The first Canadian artist to have works exhibited at the Mazatlán art museum, Joyce Majiski presented Catch of the Day, an exhibition consisting of a series of objects displayed in fishing nets. The exhibition, with its ecological message about overconsumption and the excessive use of plastic, resonated powerfully in this coastal region populated by many fishers. The artist enhanced the exhibition by adding elements that reflected the local situation.
Future collaborations in the offing
Besides interacting with the local population and many Mexican artists in public discussions, Joyce Majiski began to develop projects between Mexico and the Yukon, with Cecilia Sanchez, the museum director, who is keen to set up an exchange of artists between Yellowknife and Mazatlán.
