Recognizing dance and theatre students

Overview

Convinced that all human beings deserve to be treated with respect, Peter Dwyer freely questioned the idea that we all have the same abilities and wanted to encourage those who excelled.

What is this prize?

The Peter Dwyer Scholarships are awarded to the most promising students at the both National Ballet School and the National Theatre School of Canada.


Prize amount

A maximum of $10,000 allocated among the recipients from each of the two schools.


How to qualify

The National Ballet School and the National Theatre School each submit their candidate lists annually to the Canada Council for the Arts.

Who created this prize?

Peter Dwyer played a prominent role in the creation and development of the Canada Council for the Arts. In establishing these scholarships, he chose to reward the most talented dance and theatre students.
