Benoit Gauthier

Benoit Gauthier is the artistic director and conductor for the Orchestre symphonique de la Côte-Nord (OSCN), which he founded in 2012 to provide his home region with a professional cultural offering.

From 2021 to 2024, Benoit was part of the first cohort of the Orchestre Métropolitain’s Orchestral Conducting Academy, under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin. He recently worked with the Orchestre symphonique de Québec and the Orchestre symphonique de Laval. Benoit has received numerous bursaries and is currently a Conducting Fellow at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music, in Philadelphia, where he is mentored by musicians and conductors of great renown.

The Jean-Marie Beaudet Award in Orchestra Conducting is given to a promising young conductor from Canada for the artistic merit of their body of work.

Eligibility

The Jean-Marie Beaudet Award in Orchestra Conducting is being definitively eliminated. Until the fund has been completely depleted, the award will be given out as part of other Canada Council for the Arts programs.

Background

In 1989, Denise L. Beaudet made a bequest to the Canada Council for the Arts for the creation of an award in her husband’s memory. The purpose of the award is to encourage talented young orchestra conductors from Canada.
