What is the Canada Council’s Collab?

The Canada Council for the Arts’ Collab is a series of free sessions to help new and early-career artists apply for their first grant or improve their next grant application. We are hosting Collab in Vancouver and Victoria this winter, with four day-long sessions in Vancouver and two day-long sessions in Victoria.

Collab sessions will answer some of the big questions you might have about the Council and navigating life as an artist, including:

  • What is the Canada Council? What does it do, and which of its grant programs can help me?
  • Grant applications: What do I need to include in my application, and how can I make it stand out?
  • Granting decisions: What’s the overall process, and how will my application be assessed?
  • Explore the Canada Council’s online portal for grant applications, and meet with Council staff to discuss specific questions.

These sessions are particularly focused on New and Early Career Artists—and in particular, artists who have never attended an information session and who have yet to apply for a grant from the Canada Council.

I want to attend the Council’s Collab—now what?

Sign up for the Collab day that interests you by clicking RSVP below.

Please note that space is limited, and we ask that you choose only one day to attend. Registration is mandatory.

To request sign language interpretation (ASL/LSQ) or access related supports, please include the details in your RSVP message no later than January 15, 2020.

Sessions in Vancouver are held at the Museum of Vancouver, 1100 Chestnut Street.
Sessions in Victoria are held at KWENCH, 2031 Store Street.

These venues are both wheelchair accessible, including washrooms, ramps, and elevators, along with wide entrances and exits.

How can I prepare for Collab?

You don’t need to prepare anything for Collab—but it can be useful to have an idea in mind of a project for which you might like to apply for a Canada Council grant.

You can also create or update your artist CV, and bring a copy in PDF or Word format—though this isn’t required.

For those outside Vancouver and Victoria
