Impact of the Research and Creation and Concept to Realization Components, 2024–25

The Canada Council for the Arts engaged Hill+Knowlton to analyze the Research and Creation and Concept to Realization components.

Research goal

The analysis is focused on how funds were used, the nature of and inspiration for projects, the projects’ contribution to artistic development and practice, and project timing and dissemination methods.

Methods

Responses from a representative sample of 905 successful grant applications submitted during the 2024–25 period were analyzed.

Outcomes

Hill+Knowlton highlighted the following anticipated impacts of grant recipients’ projects:

  • Artists noted that their projects would enhance accessibility and promote inclusion within the arts, making the arts available to wider, more diverse audiences.
  • Recipients outlined plans to showcase their work through a variety of activities, such as live performances, art exhibits, screenings, online video releases and various launch events.
  • 74% of recipients reported they would use funding to develop new works.
  • Artists spoke to the experimentation and innovation involved in their projects, including the integration of technology or the blending of traditional art forms with more modern artistic practices and styles.
  • 48% of recipients reported that funding would allow them to expand their professional networks.
