Regina-based visual artist Jeff Nachtigall undertook residencies in Barcelona, Istanbul, and Budapest to create and exhibit artwork and make connections.

A multidisciplinary approach based on dialogue

Fascinated by concepts of origins, home, and homelessness, Jeff Nachtigall pursues his multidisciplinary practice by dialoguing with the communities he associates with in Canada, especially organizations operating in the fields of mental health and youth homelessness. During recent residencies abroad, he developed his ideas by painting, drawing, sculpting, and producing photos and videos. These works reveal his new connections with local artists.

Three residencies to absorb new influences

Jeff Nachtigall’s residency project was motivated by his desire to expand his horizons. During three successive artistic residences in Barcelona, Istanbul, and Budapest from January to July 2019, he expanded and bolstered his presence on the international visual arts scene and opened many new avenues. In each city, the Saskatchewan-born artist absorbed new influences and shared ideas to develop and hybridize his work.
