Ella Cooper received funding that her organization, Black Women Film! Canada, used to organize masterclasses and shape the artistic leadership of Black Canadian women artists.

Developing African-Canadian film through continuing education

Very few artists of African descent are in leadership positions in Canada’s film and media industry. Ella Cooper, the founder of Black Women Film! Canada, is working to rectify the situation by giving African-Canadian women new tools. Her Elevate leadership program provides 15 artists with training in directing, producing, screenwriting and post-production. Her program also offers masterclasses on a variety of topics, including virtual reality.

A digital directory of Black women filmmakers in Canada

After having indexed racialized women filmmakers across Canada, Black Women Film! Canada is preparing to promote these women in public spaces by making its index available online. It will include video demos and relevant documentation about their work.
