Edmonton Reading Series Promotes Feminist, Queer and Two-Spirit Writing in Canada for 2019

This year, the Canadian Literature Centre’s Brown Bag Lunch Series is highlighting the voices of feminist, queer and two-spirit Canadian artists through fiction, nonfiction, poetry, drama and song.

Connecting Canadian writers with audiences

The Canadian Literature Centre (CLC) has welcomed more than 75 writers to its readings since 2007. Each year, it hosts Brown Bag Lunch Readings on the main University of Alberta campus. Admission is free. The readings give authors the chance to engage with audiences firsthand, while the public gets to hear, meet and talk to Canadian writers of various origins, regions, languages and writing genres. In 2019, the series is showcasing feminist writing, offering a copy of the featured author's latest work as a door prize.

Spotlight on feminist, queer and two-spirit voices for 2019

The 2019 CLC Brown Bag Lunch Series: Feminist Writing in Canada comprises six readings by authors chosen to show the breadth and diversity of feminist practice in the Canadian literary arts. The series is also trying to present both well-known and less established writers. It aims to centre the voices of feminist, queer and two-spirit artists while representing variety and originality in style and genre, as well as regional and linguistic diversity.
