Canadian music honoured internationally 

WOMEX is the most international music meeting in the world. More than 2,500 participants from 90 countries participate or attend its conferences, trade fairs, films and musical performances. It also includes seven stages, 80 speakers and nearly 3,000 delegates. WOMEX is a world of music.

The Canada Council for the Arts and the delegations it supports have attended for 15 years. With Mundial Montréal, Folquébec and Cinars - Québec en scène, Canada will be represented at no less than 10 stands at WOMEX on "Canadian Alley," and more than 100 Canadians will be on site. It's impossible not to see them!

A first prestigious WOMEX award in Canada

And it's impossible not to hear them!

First, Indigenous musician ShoShona Kish receives the WOMEX Professional Excellence Award and becomes the first artist in Canada to win this prestigious award.

ShoShona Kish receives this award "for her role in the ongoing revolution to transform Indigenous communities and their culture - using music as an agent of change, to awaken our humanity and help us connect".

In fact, it is impossible not to see and hear the Canada Council’s delegation at this year’s WOMEX!

Vishtèn, an Acadian traditional music “power trio” will perform on the main stage.

Indigenous musician Jeremy Dutcher (pianist singer of the Tobique First Nation in New Brunswick and winner of the 2018 Polaris Music Award), Inuit singer Elisapie Isaac (from the Salluit community in northern Quebec), and Mélisande [electrotrad], from Beloeil, were also selected to perform.

These artists have received support from the Council for the Arts at various times during their careers and this year, the Council's support has propelled them internationally.

It will be the ideal place to have conversations with presenters, artists, and agents, and share information about the Council's support for potential co-productions, residencies, Canadian artists' tours and foreign artists' tours in Canada.
