Organization for Artists with Disabilities Advances Administrative Practices
Listen to Dis’, Saskatchewan’s only disability-led arts organization, is using a grant to improve its administrative practices and secure its long-term viability.
Getting the administrative fundamentals right
Listen to Dis’ defines its artistic genre as Crip Art, a combination of music, movement, somatic and visual art, and traditional and experimental theatre. The organization is using a grant from the Council to strengthen its administrative capacity so that it can remain viable for many years to come. This essential work involves developing a set of ethical rules, guiding principles and standard operating procedures, and then creating processes that integrate these fundamentals into the organization’s daily activities.
Sharing its administrative work with other artists with disabilities
As a disability leader in the province, Listen to Dis’ believes it has an obligation to support artists with disabilities. Accordingly, the organization will share its finished administrative work with Deaf Crows Collective. This group of Deaf and hearing actors use art to explore the Deaf experience and ways to bridge all communication preferences, language choices, intersectionalities and visual communication styles.
