Inuit Art and Digital Technology
The Pinnguaq Association is developing an effective and attractive digital platform to promote and sell Inuit artwork.
Enhancing the visibility of Inuit artwork
The Pinnguaq Association in Iqaluit aims to improve the situation and careers of Inuit artists. Many of these artists currently receive a low proportion of the proceeds from the sale of their works by distributors, and their own websites generate little traffic or income. That’s why Pinnguaq is developing new infrastructure to increase the discoverability and sale of Inuit art.
The digital potential
During the Nunavut Arts and Crafts Festival in Iqaluit in late summer 2019, Pinnguaq discussed with artists how to make their work more profitable. This led to the idea of creating a new sales and distribution platform. This platform, to be launched in 2021, will amplify the voices of Inuit artists, in addition to making their creations known and involving them directly in marketing their work.
