Located in Yellowknife, the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre is a venue and supporting agency for northern, cross-Canada, and international artists, and it operates programs in communities across the territory.

Year-round programming in Treaty 8 territory

The performing arts centre focuses on theatre, dance, music, multimedia, and storytelling, emphasizing general, youth and First Nations/Inuit/Métis content. In a typical year, the Centre serves six communities in the territory with dozens of concerts, school presentations, master classes and workshops, as well as outreach programming. It also runs a mentorship program. Located on Treaty 8 territory, the Centre has Indigenous representatives on its board and a committee of Indigenous artists in place. It supports First Nations, Métis and Inuit artists from across Canada and beyond.

An emerging cultural hub in the North

With a roster of the best established and emerging talent available, the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre is dedicated to presenting dynamic productions for diverse audiences: its public performances draw crowds that range in age from five to 85. The Centre also runs school presentations, workshops, focus groups and outreach activities, all designed uniquely for the regions where they take place. In 2019–20, a Canada Council grant helped cover costs related to production, accommodation, transportation, promotion, and artists’ fees across five regions of the Northwest Territories.
