About the role
Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the incumbent manages the delivery of grants or funds to individual artists, arts groups, arts and/or performing arts organizations in accordance with established policies and procedures, including Equity policies and priorities.
As the Program Officer, you will:
- assess the eligibility of applicants and projects and follows-up as needed;
- chair or participate in working groups and committees;
- provide assessments in internal committees;
- provide information and impartial commentary during peer assessment committee meetings;
- contribute to advancing program outcomes, Council’s strategic direction and the development of Council policies;
- sustain relationships in the arts communities and share knowledge of artistic practices;
- review artistic profiles and grant applications for eligibility;
- provide financial and organizational analysis;
- propose committee composition;
- make recommendation for grant recipients and amounts;
- represent the Council at various events;
- contribute to the ongoing improvement of programs and processes;
- validate reporting data, including CADAC statistical data;
- work to ensure access for professional Canadian artists and arts organizations to Council programs and services, and perform other related duties.
You may be required to travel up to 30 days per year and on occasion, work irregular hours.
Requirements of the position
- An undergraduate degree in performing arts practices, arts administration or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience related to the responsibilities of the position
- Five (5) years of experience in the arts directly related to the principal responsibilities of the position
- Three (3) years of experience in the field of expertise (literature)
- Experience in various artistic disciplines (such as dance, media arts, music, theater, visual arts, circus or indigenous arts, etc.) would be an asset
- Experience analyzing financial and statistical data
- Strong knowledge of one or more artistic disciplines
- General knowledge of the current state of the arts in Canada and internationally, and of trends and new developments in the arts, including more recent forms such as digital arts
- General knowledge of culturally diverse practices in Canada, such as non-Western forms, Indigenous arts practices and Deaf and disability arts
- An understanding of the interrelationships and complexities of the artistic milieu, including the organizations and institution

- Ability to perform analysis of financial statements and statistical data

- Ability to synthesize information, write reports, analyze budgets and understand financial statements
- Ability to facilitate consensus and resolve conflicts
- Ability to chair and manage committees
- This position requires the use of both official languages. The requirements in the second official language are: an intermediate level in oral, reading comprehension and in writing.
