About the role

Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Digital and Brand, the incumbent will work with different units across Council to define and implement projects to enhance Council’s email marketing function to meet the Canada Council’s communication objectives.

As the Digital Communications Officer, you will:

  • develop, contribute to and implement the Council’s email marketing strategy;
  • provide analysis, develop training plans, and deliver training, guidelines, workshops and informal sessions to internal clients to build digital communications capacity and knowledge across Council;
  • support colleagues in honing their digital communications skills;
  • monitor and share insight on trends;
  • report on the results of Council’s email marketing campaigns and initiatives;
  • analyze the use and impact of Council’s engagement and develops related recommendations;
  • manage contact lists;
  • write and send email campaigns using the email marketing software;
  • support content development for the Council’s new Intranet by:
    • realizing and delivering the Intranet content strategy and framework establishing content production systems;
    • analyzing requests and additions to the Intranet roadmap contributing to the overall intranet planning and strategy;
    • producing strategic content and activating content features;
    • working with the Intranet team to advise and identify new areas of strategic improvement.

You may be required to travel up to ten (10) days per year and on occasion, work irregular hours.

This position is located in Ottawa.

Requirements of the position

Education

  • An undergraduate degree in marketing, communications, or a related field or an equivalent combination of professional experience and education related to the responsibilities of the position

Experience

  • Three (3) years of experience in a digital communications role including digital marketing, email marketing, intranet or website specialist or digital product owner
  • Three (3) years of experience in large and complex multi-channel digital projects
  • Experience in developing digital marketing, intranet, or other digital communication strategies
  • Proven experience advising on the use of digital communications tools as strategically integrated marketing tactics
  • Experience in managing contact lists and in CASL compliance
  • Experience working shoulder to shoulder with different disciplines, including content, design, development, and marketing

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of digital marketing best practices, and audience segmentation
  • Knowledge of content marketing fundamentals including search engine marketing
  • Knowledge of email marketing principles and best practices
  • Knowledge of email marketing platforms like Envoke and Mailchimp
  • Knowledge of Web content management systems would be an asset

Bilingual Requirements

  • This position requires the use of both official languages. The requirements in the second official language are: an intermediate level in oral, reading comprehension and in writing.
