About the role
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Research and Evaluation Analyst, the incumbent conducts research studies and analysis related to the Canada Council for the Arts granting activity, clients and the arts sector in general, based on identified priorities in research, measurement and evaluation strategies and plans.
As the Research and Measurement Analyst you will:
- recommend, conduct and monitor data collection, validation and dissemination projects and processes for the Canada Council;
- develop and maintain corporate data sets used for the strategic analysis of data, identification of trends, corporate reporting and program outcomes and performance measurement;
- conduct analyses of cost efficiency and program performance measures;
- undertake analysis and research concerning the activities of the Canada Council and the arts milieu in Canada and abroad;
- design visualizations to best represent data;
- monitor policy, research issues and trends in the national and international arts, culture or social fields;
- coordinate the dissemination of research and data projects results;
- assist and support in the management and development of performance measurement indicators methodologies, tools and reports;
- provide assistance to Council staff related to data collection and validation methodologies, analysis of performance indicators, etc.;
- and performs other related duties.
You may be required to travel up to 10 days per year and, on occasion, work irregular hours.
This position is located in Ottawa. The Council provides eligible employees with financial assistance to help offset specific moving expenses associated with relocation to the National Capital Region (NCR).
Requirements of the position

- An undergraduate degree in social sciences, economics or related field of training or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience related to the responsibilities of the position
- Five (5) years of experience related to the principal responsibilities of the position in a research or policy department, or in an arts or social sciences organization including three (3) years progressive experience in research methodology, quantitative and qualitative analysis, principles and methods, impact studies and electronic data processing methods
- Experience in extraction, validation and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data, data analysis and data visualization
- Experience in program evaluation or performance measurement
- Experience analyzing and presenting financial and statistical data using a computerized system
- Experience working with databases
- Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods (e.g. surveys, interviews, focus groups)
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office (Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), good understanding of data architectures and diagram principles, and good knowledge of data software (such as SPSS, NVivo, or PowerBI for data visualization).
- Knowledge of the best practices in the national and international arts impact research sector would be an asset
- Knowledge of justice, equity, and inclusion and accessibility, or Indigenous research methodologies would be an asset

- Strong report building skills using business intelligence tools
- Strong skills of data analysis related to the arts (e.g., financial, statistical, demographic, public participation, economic)
- Excellent judgment, analytical, research and interpersonal skills
- Strong attention to detail and excellent quantitative and qualitative analysis skills
- Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data, to recognize significant factors, relationships, and trends, and to integrate the findings in reports and presentations
- Ability to conduct literature reviews and prepare research summaries
- Ability to communicate credibly about research results and data
- Strong time and priority management skills
- Demonstrated administrative, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
- This position requires the use of both official languages. The requirements in the second official language are: intermediate level in oral and reading comprehension and a basic level in writing.
