The London Art Book Fair is an annual event organised by the Whitechapel Gallery which celebrates the best of international contemporary art publishing. It showcases a diverse range of work from individual artist publishers to galleries, magazines, colleges, arts publishing houses, rare book dealers and distributors. Each year the Fair invites around 80 exhibitors from all over the world to exhibit their work over four days alongside an extensive programme of related events.

In partnership with the Canada Council for the Arts, the London Art Book Fair featured Canada as a focus country in 2014, bringing a selection of nine Canadian presses, distributors, independent publishers and editions-makers to the UK for the first time. The Canadian High Commission in London was also a partner in this initiative, ensuring that the publishers met key contacts in the UK.

The London Art Book Fair attracts around 12,000 people interested in art, design and publishing, and provides a forum for art book publishers to engage directly with the public. Our Canadian publishers enjoyed building their global networks and creating international public interest in the work of Canadian artists.

Canadian Participants

In the spring of 2014, the Audience and Market Development Office of the Canada Council for the Arts invited Canadian art book publishers to respond to an open call for applications to be part of the Canadian Focus at the London Art Book Fair 2014. Nine publishers from across the country were selected based on recommendations made jointly by the Whitechapel Gallery and the Audience and Market Development Office and Visual Arts Section of the Canada Council for the Arts.

Together, they represent the rich diversity of art publishing in Canada, and demonstrate the world-class calibre of our artists and art publications.

Congratulations to the selected publishers!
