Bringing the arts to life
We're proud to be Canada’s public arts funder. We champion and invest in artistic excellence through our grants, services, prizes and payments to Canadian artists and arts organizations.
Artists play a leading role in sustaining the vitality of our communities. They bring people together to address local concerns – often with a global impact. Several of the Canada Council’s New Chapter projects exemplify this.
These Canada Council New Chapter projects challenge us to reconsider natural and built spaces.
Last Spring, the Canada Council for the Arts invited the arts and culture community to Arsenal, a contemporary art gallery in Montreal, to participate in a national summit on the Arts in a Digital World.
The Canada Council’s Professional Prix de Rome in Architecture, as well as its Emerging Practitioners Award, were created to encourage the pursuit of a more outward-looking vision of the world. The $5000 J.B.C. Watkins Award: Architecture is offered to a Canadian professional architect wishing to pursue postgraduate studies outside Canada, ideally in Denmark, Norway, Sweden or Iceland.
